call my berlin bluff.

[berlin. stilinberlin.blogspot.com ]

when demands build and duty bears down, one turns to comfort- comfort eats and comfort looks. and i love stilinberlin for letting me indulge in a little 'action-imagination'- it's the place you go to to live out all your incarnations and play out your most heroic, bravest deeds.

whether an intellectual hobo or a mother who builds jet engines, everyone's a revolutionary. and everyone's implicated in it.

longtime readers to this blog will know my ongoing infatuation with berlin. but it is also a deep respect. there, the only rule is to be real, and reality is tough, not always nice, and always needs a keep on keeping on. how do i tell? no one dresses like they care what everyone else thinks (ugh-ly you say? fingers to you and your prada bag- and i outfinger you 'cos theyre in ragtag mittens); everyone dresses like they think, playfully, bitterly, about what they themselves stand for.

lately, stilinberlin has gone younger and gone upscale, becoming more polished. but well, eager young energy. why not, if its the berliners.

A: hey.
have a scroll through, and tell me two words that pop to your head?

B: ugly

becoming ornaments,
the dirty and despised never found more voice
than on chosen garments of men.

looking at fashion.

[berlin. from stilinberlin.blogspot.com]

nature gives all the ways
to be right,
the laws behind being.
it grows, moves, lives,
according to principles laid before time,
perfected and refined through time.

and man, in being occasionally wrong,
in his missteps and
miscalculations,
tiny tragedies and loud disasters,
reveals how it may be a delightful right,
how there may be a saving kernel,
and that some rules aren't too bad broken.
especially when they were made by men

visual smörgåsbord. deutsch-style.

in the dearth of conclusive certainties from one's standpoint in the swirl that is laos/nongduang/yepteam,
one heads to the heady lights of inspired irreverence-

and finds:
the fight against convention, the protest against mundanity, of ideas and self-idenitity forced out through colours and cloth;
the basal cry of self+fun?

[stilinberlin.]

[stilinberlin.] what of the yearly gushing parade of self assertion and affirmation?

[berlin. potsdamer platz] 06. gay pride.

perhaps fashion: if for no use other than delight and fun, it has done its work, and fulfilled its only obligation.

wearing Berlin.

its a convenient re-arousal of passion; fashion in tv, finally getting another Vogue, having more moolah and time to get/ look at clothes, being able to go beyond the school corridors and workplaces..

that was a diversion.
spent time perusing street fashion blogs, and chanced upon those in new york, paris, helsinki, tokyo and singapore- beyond the colors, the shapes, the different flavors of style, it was mental gratification to feel out the culture of a people through their clothes.

and i love new york, but berlin wins for being Raw.

those adidas stripes again (think they are). beyond this snapshot of purity (of whatever their little hearts beat about), the composition is rather narrative-like. the man and kid in the background foreshadowing the couple in front.

this is berlin stereotyped, and exemplified.

this is berlin because... no one wears coats of that colour and length in this decade anymore. ? love it.

no one wears those shoes no more.
and do the graffiti influence the people, or the people influence the graffiti?

scruffy. and they look hungry. you dont get that in paris.
lieber lieber lieber the brown on brown neutrals.

saw my first all-pink european lady in muenster and this berliner reminds me of her.

what makes this berlin? i dont know; the adidas shoes? but what a Look being channelled.!

meant to have a sampling of ten, then i saw these. come on, how low-cost and old school grunge can you get with slit jeans and neo-70s hairdo?

what better accessory than an accidental symbol of freedom (a set of pollution- free wheels).

none of them looked like they had oodles of disposable euros to throw on Kleidung. which is part of the raw harshness to their clothes. their look isnt the convenient piece togethered rich- no blaring brands, and its not loud pop exhibitionist (eg. tokyo way). maybe im biased, but it reeks of deutsch industry and individual spirit. wunderbar.
